A Day for Firsts

Today is a day of firsts. My daughter just finished her first week of Pre-K, my 2 year old had his first morning in underwear without having an accident, my baby sat up for about a minute before he started slumping over, and I am making my first blog entry. This is also the first time in my life I've truly committed to homesteading. Though there is always something magical in all of these firsts in my life I know that all too soon the magic will fade. Why does time make all the firsts in our lives loose their novelty? Soon going to school will be routine for my daughter, my son will be potty trained, and my baby will be crawling. We preserve the firsts in our lives with photos and keepsakes, and we celebrate their end with parties and congratulations. Is the middle not worth preserving and celebrating?
The same thing happens whenever I read a good book, the beginning gets me hooked then I breeze through the middle only to reach the end and wonder where it all went. I hope that this blog will help me appreciate my journey to homesteading. Maybe, just maybe if I can keep track of all I did to get there I'll not only preserve the middle and end but, for the first time, I'll learn to appreciate the middle and cherish my journey to homesteading.
